Construction is close to completion on the $131.2 million 64-bed Te Pae Tawhiti Adult Mental Health Facility, which will replace the Henry Rongomau Bennett Centre at Waikato Hospital.

The new facility was built in two phases, including the Adult Mental Health Facility and the Waikato Regional Renal Centre. The Renal Centre was completed in February 2025, while the Adult Mental Health Facility is expected to be open for care later this year.  

The 7,700m² building features eight internal courtyards, maximising natural light. The project has been built to the Greenstar Five Star sustainability building standard, as well as the best-practice Australasian Health Facility Design Guidelines.
